A good Nigerian Dwarf buck is usually the beginning of a mini dairy goat breeding program.

Miniature dairy goats are a cross between a Nigerian Dwarf and a standard size dairy goat.  There are now Mini Alpines, Mini Toggenburgs, Mini La Manchas, Mini Oberhaslis, and Mini Saanens as well as the Mini Nubians.  The Mini Nubians have an additional challenge of breeding good Nubian ears and noses - completely opposite in structure from the Nigerians and other standard dairy breeds.  No Pygmy blood is allowed in developing any of the mini breeds, because their body conformation is more a meat type than a dairy type.  For more information on the Miniature Nubians, visit our links page.

DJ (unclipped and shedding his winter coat), showing his high, wide escutcheon - let's hope he passes this on to his daughters!

Rosasharn's TL Don Juan *S is a purebred Nigerian Dwarf buck.  He will be bred to our standard Nubian does this fall for our first 50/50 1st generation Mini Nubians.  Don Juan has an outstanding pedigree for show and milk.  Rosasharn Farm has been among the AGS Top Ten breed leaders for milk, butterfat, and protein for a number of years.

DJ has great dairy character, with sharp shoulders, long level back, clean, straight legs, and a long slim neck.  He has very good rear leg angulation and a beautifully wide escutcheon.  He is wide through the chest and barrel. His daughter, Twin Creeks DJ Goodnight Moon, won Reserve Champion Junior Doe out of a very competitive class of 20.  She will freshen in March, 2005, and I can't wait to see her udder.  He will be bred to our standard Nubian does for first generation kids in 2006.

DJ improved chest width, heart depth, rear leg angulation, and front end assemblies on all his 2006 kids.  Escutcheons were very nice, too! I was impressed with the overall correctness of these kids.

DJ was sold to advance our breeding program with the minis.  He will be greatly missed, but he will continue his good deeds in another herd.

Blue Oak's Sundance, 1st gen Mini Nubian by DJ.  This boy was so long, level, and smooth.  I'm hoping for more like him in 2007!

Mein Alb Traum Cousteau, 1st gen Mini Alpine wether by DJ.  He has great heart depth and body length, and is really nicely put together.  He has his daddy's spots, too!

Mein Alb Traum La Mer, 1st gen Mini Alpine by DJ - She is smoothly blended and is so long and dairy and feminine.  She'd be tough to beat in the show ring!

La Mer's rear view - lovely escutcheon, and such nice tight shoulders and a great, flat rump from thurl to thurl.
