Our chickens range daily on unsprayed pastures. They are raised as organically as possible, however, I will isolate and administer antibiotics as necessary for the health of the bird. I do this because I feel it is inhumane to let an animal suffer. In strictly organic production, a bird is either left to recover on its own or is killed outright. Because of my breeding program and involvement with rare breed poultry, this is not an option.
In the past, I raised French Marans is several different colors and exhibition quality Silver Spangled Hamburg Bantams. I don't have layers or exhibition birds at this point, as I need to work on the barns and so forth...hopefully, I'll be able to get my feathered friends back in the near future.
Classroom Incubation For a couple of years, I have loaned out my two Brinsea Octagon 20s and fertile eggs for local classrooms. In return for the classroom experience, I take all the chicks back whenever they're ready to go home. However, with the changes I'm making to the chicken management as well as ranch chores, I will not be able to offer this for some time. Drop me an e-mail if you have any questions.
